Tumut house fire
Published: 21st September 2008
In the early hours of this morning firefighters from Tumut and Turvey Park attended a house fire in Mountford Street, Tumut. The first fire crews arrived within nine minutes to find a two storey house engulfed in flames with the fire threatening to spread to neighbouring properties and reports of people still inside the burning building. Firefighters quickly began to attack the fire to enable a search to be carried out and set up fire hoses to protect adjacent properties. Tragically as the fire was brought under control fire crews discovered the body of a person. Two other people had been rescued from the second level and taken to hospital. The building suffered extensive damage and investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.
