Kingswood factory fire

Published: 12th September 2008

Early this morning firefighters from Penrith, Regentville, Huntingwood, Parramatta, St Marys, Cranebrook, Dunheved and Fairfield responded to a fire in an automotive workshop in Copeland Street, Kingswood. Fire crews were on scene within seven minutes and reported large volumes of smoke and found difficulties gaining access to the factory because of the high level of security. Several explosions were heard inside the factory as gas bottles were involved in the blaze which had burnt through the roof. Firefighters were able to contain the rapidly spreading fire to the workshop, saving the adjoining factories. A hydraulic ladder fire engine was used to help extinguish the fire as a section of wall had collapsed and another wall was in danger of collapsing. The workshop was destroyed in the blaze but damage to the adjoining factories was limited to heat and smoke by firefighters. Fire crews assisted with clean up work and investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.
