Commercial premises fire in Newtown
Published: 18th August 2008
At midnight tonight firefighters from Newtown and Glebe responded to a building fire in Bucknell Lane Newtown. When firefighters arrived they were confronted with a large and very fierce fire at the rear of a two level building. They immediately called for backup to tackle the blaze. More crews from Leichhardt, Marrickville, Alexandria, Balmain and Inspectors from Ashfield and the City arrived to assist. Firefighters were quick to contain the fire to the rear with heat and smoke damage to the first level. The building consisted of three separate businesses with a real estate agency suffering severe fire damage, but the quick actions of the firefighters saved the other two businesses from fire damage.
