Building fire in Greenwich
Published: 10th June 2008
This afternoon firefighters from Lane Cove, Willoughby and The Rocks responded to an automatic fire alarm at an electronics store on the Pacific Highway at Greenwich. Ironically the occupants of the building were in the middle of a fire drill when the incident occurred. There was a small fire in a rear room and smoke had filled the store and travelled through the five level building. The fire was quickly located using a thermal imaging camera but the smoke required the evacuation of 150 people from the offices above the store. Radio station 2UE was located on several of the floors above meaning that the station was off the air for around 20 minutes. Fire crews worked very quickly to extinguished the fire and ventilate the building, ensuring that 2UE was not off the air for too long and staff were able to return to the building as quickly as possible.
