Fire in a motorcycle workshop at Bexley

Published: 29th May 2008

Early this morning firefighters from Hurstville, Kogarah, Arncliffe, Campsie, Mortdale, Lakemba and Hazmat specialists from Alexandria and Greenacre responded to a fire in a motorcycle workshop. The workshop of the single level premises, on Stoney Creek Road at Bexley, was engulfed in flames. The fire was threatening to spread to the retail area of the premises and to several adjoining residences. Fire crews set up fire hoses to protect the residences and firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the workshop to stop the fire spreading. A hydraulic ladder fire engine was used to get better access to the fire and the adjoining residences and several homes downwind were evacuated. The fire was brought under control and extinguished in less than three hours. The workshop suffered extensive damage but firefighters saved the retail area and the surrounding homes.
