Shop fire in Maclean

Published: 6th May 2008

This morning firefighters from Maclean, Yamba and Grafton were called to a video store fire in the main street of Maclean on the far north coast of NSW. Fire crews arrived to find the upper storey of the two-storey building well alight. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to contain the fire while other crews set up fire hoses to protect the adjoining premises. With the roof in danger of collapse, crews were forced from the building but continued to extinguish the blaze from the outside. Twelve people were evacuated during the blaze. The upper storey was extensively damaged but the adjoining buildings were saved from any fire damage. The RFS provided assistance in extinguishing the fire.
