Randwick shopping centre fire
Published: 30th April 2008
A fire in a shopping centre this morning in Belmore Road at Randwick was attended by fire crews from Randwick, Maroubra, Woollahra, Alexandria and City of Sydney. With reports of small explosions and smoke filling the shopping centre, firefighters evacuated hundreds of people. The fire, which was near the loading dock, was quickly contained and extinguished with the assistance of the sprinkler system fitted inside the shopping centre. Fire crews ventilated the centre and carried out mopping up operations to minimise damage. A final check of the air quality was made with detectors to ensure that the area was clear.
