Greenacre house fire and rescue

Firefighters from Chester Hill, Lakemba, Bankstown, Burwood, Revesby and Parramatta responded to a house on fire with people trapped in Banksia Road in Greenacre this morning The first fire crews to arrive found the top storey of a house alight with thick, black smoke billowing from the roof and windows. Firefighters used portable ladders to rescue a man and a woman and two children from a top storey window and balcony. There were two other children in the house at the time of the fire who escaped the blaze as crews arrived. A section of the roof collapsed as firefighters contained the blaze to the top storey. The blaze took one hour to extinguish and the occupants of the house were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns by paramedics on the scene and taken to hospital. The cause of the house fire is still under investigation.
