Fatal house fire in Wentworthville
Published: 20th March 2008
This morning fire crews from Wentworthville, Northmead and Parramatta were called to a blaze in Peachtree Avenue and arrived on the scene within eight minutes to find a single story cottage well alight, with flames engulfing the roof. Two firefighters attempted to force their way through the front door but were forced back by intense heat and flames. Battling an intense fire and a collapsing ceiling, fire crews wearing breathing apparatus entered through a window and pulled a woman from the burning cottage. Despite their best efforts the woman later died. Firefighters then contained the fire and stopped it from spreading to neighbouring houses. At this stage it is too early to determine the cause of the fire and a full investigation will be conducted by the NSWFB and NSW Police.
