Sign fire lights up Sydney's night sky
Published: 12th March 2008
This evening the NSW Fire Brigades received more than 130 Triple Zero (000) calls to a fire at a high-rise office building in Sussex Street, Sydney. Firefighters from City of Sydney, The Rocks, Darlinghurst and Pyrmont arrived to discover a large neon sign alight, approximately 30 storeys above the ground. Roads around the building were quickly closed due to flaming debris which was falling from the building. A building engineer isolated the power, and the fire was extinguished quickly. Fortunately the fire was contained to the outside of the building and 26 people safely evacuated themselves from the building.
