20 New firefighter join the ranks

NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Commissioner Greg Mullins today welcomed 20 new recruit firefighters who will take on firefighting as a full-time career after 16 weeks of intensive training.
The newly qualified recruits start their new roles tomorrow and will be deployed to a number of stations across Sydney.
At a graduation ceremony held this morning, Commissioner Mullins said the recruits were ready to tackle challenging roles and were equipped with the necessary skills to protect the community and save lives.
"The everyday job of a firefighter is far more diverse than rescuing someone from a burning building or putting out fires," Commissioner Mullins said.
"During their firefighting careers these new recruits will not only carry out fire and emergency protection, but will fulfil important educational roles and responsibilities in the community to promote fire prevention and safety.
"I congratulate all the new recruits on their training achievements and graduation, and wish them well in their challenging careers with the NSWFB."
Prior to joining the NSWFB, the recruits of Class 6/2007 worked in a variety of industries including photography, plumbing, business and aerobic instructing.
After the graduation ceremony, the recruits demonstrated their new skills for family and friends.
