NSW Fire Brigades Firefighter from Berowra recovering in hospital

Published: 11th March 2008

At 9.15am today, NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) firefighters from Berowra Fire Station were called to a small bush fire between railway lines and the F3, near Berowra Train Station.

Whilst extinguishing the fire, one of the firefighters was assaulted by a man at the scene who then fled into nearby bushland. The firefighter received minor injuries and remains at Hornsby Hospital under observation.

NSW police officers and NSWFB aviation officers used the Fire Air 1 helicopter to search bushland for the man.

Around 1.30pm, NSW Police arrested a man fitting the description of the attacker, who is now assisting Police with their inquiries.

It is rare for NSWFB firefighters to come under attack from members of the public.

NSWFB firefighters will be assisting NSW Police with their inquiries.
