Burst water main in Alexandria
Published: 6th March 2008
Early this morning firefighters from Alexandria were called to Botany Road in Alexandria. When the crew arrived they were confronted with localised flooding caused by a break in a large water main. The cellar in an adjacent hotel filled with water and water seeped into a nearby construction site. The road was closed in both directions. Firefighters pumped out the cellar and then, with the assistance of firefighters from Redfern, used large suction hoses to continually pump water from the hole around the broken water main. Fire crews continued to pump out water until early afternoon when the main could be shut down.
