Two house fires in the Wollongong area
Published: 5th March 2008
Firefighters from the Wollongong area were called to two separate house fires overnight. The first fire occurred in a house in Coniston. Fire crews from Wollongong, Unanderra, Warrawong and Shellharbour responded to the fire and found the front section of the house ablaze. The fire had spread to a car in a carport and firefighters battled to quickly contain the fire to prevent further damage. Two rooms and the car were severely damage in the fire. The second house fire was attended by fire crews from Bulli and Corrimal. The single level house in Woonona was engulfed in flames when crews arrived. The fire was brought under control quickly but a search by fire crews found that, tragically, a man was deceased inside the home. Investigations by the Fire Brigades and Police are continuing into the cause of the fire.
