Hazmat incident at West Ryde

Published: 4th March 2008

Just after noon firefighters from Eastwood and Hazmat specialists from Greenacre were called to Victoria Road at West Ryde. A collision between a car and a truck had resulted in the diesel fuel tank on the truck rupturing. Spilt fuel had made its way into a nearby drain which lead to a waterway. On arrival fire crews used an absorbent material to soak up the spilt diesel on the road and to prevent further diesel entering the drain. Absorbent booms where place in the creek to stop the fuel travelling further downstream. The Hazmat specialists completed the removal of the diesel from the creek ensuring no environmental damage.
