Boat fire in Manly

Published: 25th February 2008

This afternoon firefighters from Manly and Dee Why fire stations together with the crew from the NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) fast-attack firefighting vessel, Marine 1, responded to a boat on fire that was moored along side Manly Wharf. Numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received from the public who could see the smoke and flames billowing from the vessel. Fire crews arrived to find a 5.7 metre fibreglass power boat engulfed in flames. The first arriving firefighting crews borrowed a nearby boat and used a portable pump to commence attack on the fire. Marine 1 then arrived and quickly extinguished the fire. Firefighters checked for leaking fuel and searched nearby shorelines to ensure no debris or harmful materials contaminated the waterway. Fire crews towed the boat, which was burnt down to the water line, to shore. There were no other boats in danger. No one was onboard the damaged boat at the time of the fire.
