Gas leak in Randwick

Published: 24th February 2008

Firefighters from Randwick and Hazmat specialists from Alexandria were called to a leaking LPG cylinder in Alison Road at Randwick early this morning. The gas leak was from a large cylinder in a service station. Fire crews set up a fire hose to break up the leaking gas and shut down the browsers. A total of 50 people were evacuated from the immediate area and a neighbouring residential unit block. Alison Road was also closed in both directions for safety reasons. A gas company representative shut off the leak while fire crews used gas detectors to monitor for high levels of concentrated LPG. After a final check showed no gas build up, all people were allowed to return to their premises and the road reopened.
