Gas leak in Medlow Bath

Excavation work being carried out by a backhoe damaged a gas main causing a leak in Railway Parade at Medlow Bath this afternoon. Firefighters from Blackheath and Katoomba responded to the incident and set up a protective fire hose in case the leaking gas ignited. Fire crews used gas detectors to monitor gas levels in the area while gas company representatives worked to repair the leak. The trains on the nearby rail line were stopped for safety reasons until the leak was stopped and all traces of gas dissipated.
