Truck fire on the F3
Published: 29th January 2008
This morning firefighters from Berowra, Hornsby, Ryde, Gordon and Hazmat specialists from Greenacre were at the scene of a truck fire on the F3. The truck, located in the southbound lanes near the Berowra exit, was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived. Leaking diesel from the truck had also ignited requiring firefighters to utilise foam to extinguish the running fuel fire. Hazmat crews ensured that the leaking diesel did not enter any waterways. The truck was carrying shredded paper which had to be removed from the vehicle, pulled apart and hosed down to extinguish all traces of fire. The paper was then picked up by a front end loader and backhoe and removed by trucks. Firefighters decanted the remaining fuel in the truck's fuel tanks so that the burnt out truck could be taken away. This process was time consuming and the freeway remained closed to safely complete the incident. The driver of the truck was not injured.
