Factory Fires, Botany

At 2.30 am Firefighters from Botany, Matraville, Mascot, were called to a factory fire in Botany. The first crews were on the scene in a very short time and were confronted with a factory unit that was well alight. Back up was called for and firefighters from Maroubra, City of Sydney, Arncliffe, Marrickville, Newtown, Kogarah, Glebe, Hurstville and Alexandria stations were also despatched to the scene. Firefighters had difficulty gaining access into the fire which was growing in intensity due to it being fuelled by paints and plastics. It took one and a half hours to bring the fire under control with final extinguishment coming around 5 am. The quick actions of firefighters in protecting the surrounding buildings, saved them from any damage. Firefighters from Botany remained on scene for sometime. A few hours later at 10 am, firefighters were called to another factory fire in a nearby street. Crews from Matraville, Maroubra, Mascot, City of Sydney, Alexandria, Glebe and Kogarah were responded. Firefighters found a factory unit on fire with engineering equipment and acetylene cylinders involved. The fire was extinguished by 11.20 am.
