Firefighters nominate neighbours for Bravery Award

NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Commissioner Greg Mullins today praised three men for their heroic actions at a house fire in Grays Point in Sydney's south overnight.
Commissioner Mullins congratulated the three men for rescuing their neighbour from his burning home.
"The three men are to be nominated for NSWFB bravery awards following the dramatic fire rescue. If not for their valiant efforts there could have been a tragedy.
"Without training, protective equipment and without thinking twice they risked their own safety to search for and rescue their neighbour from the burning house," Commissioner Mullins said.
Just before 1.30 am, firefighters from Miranda and Sutherland were called to a house fire in Grays Point.
"After calling Triple Zero (000), the three men entered the blazing home and searched for the man who they knew would be home.
"The three neighbours found and rescued him, one of them suffered minor smoke inhalation during the courageous rescue.
"The neighbours carried the injured man who had suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation onto the front lawn and used water to keep him cool until fire crews and paramedics arrived.
"Fire crews contained the fire and stopped it from spreading throughout the house. It took 20 minutes to extinguish blaze," he said.
Commissioner Mullins highlighted the large number of house fires.
"This fire is a stark reminder of the importance of having working smoke alarms and a home escape plan to ensure your safety and protection."
The fire is currently being investigated by the NSWFB and NSW Police.
