NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) firefighters from Albury Civic Fire Station today officially took delivery of a new $310 000 fire engine, when NSWFB Superintendent Col Holmes, Zone Commander – Murray, handed over the keys to Captain John Vandeven.

Superintendent Holmes said the new purpose-built fire engine would enable firefighters to respond to emergencies even more quickly and effectively.

"This state-of-the-art piece of equipment is a major investment in the local community.

"The new fire engine incorporates the latest in firefighting equipment and technology, including a high-pressure pump that supplies up to 3,000 litres of water per minute for firefighting operations, and a foam system to assist in extinguishing chemical, petrol and bush fires, such as the pine plantation fires in November," Superintendent Holmes said.

Captain Vandeven said the arrival of the new fire engine at Albury Civic Fire Station was significant for the local firefighters and the community alike.

"The crew protects three hospitals, numerous aged-care facilities and multi-storey buildings and the main business district of Albury.

"The firefighters are now even better equipped to protect their community, and residents and businesses can feel even more confident that they are in safe hands," he said.
