Transformer fire at Picnic Point

Published: 31st October 2007

This evening numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received by the NSW Fire Brigades to a transformer on fire on Henry Lawson Drive at Picnic Point. Firefighters from Revesby, Riverwood, Menai, Mortdale, Bankstown, Lakemba, Hurstville, Kogarah and Hazmat specialists from Greenacre responded to the fire. Because the transformer fire involved high voltage, fire crews were not able to enter the enclosure until the power was isolated. Fire crews assembled stocks of firefighting foam and deployed fire hoses in preparation to extinguish the blaze. When it was safe, the fire was quickly extinguished and all firefighting foam and water were contained on site. There were no injuries reported.
