Factory fire in Arndell Park
Published: 29th October 2007
A fire in a factory at Arndell Park resulted in a protracted Hazmat incident that lasted for many days and required firefighters from stations throughout the Sydney metropolitan area to assist. The fire, which was contained by the factory's installed sprinkler system, caused only minor damage to the factory but required firefighters to remove all contents. The fire affected products were taken away but all the other contents from the large factory needed to be decontaminated and removed. This process was very time consuming and required fire crews to maintain the moisture content of the product while it was decontaminated and removed in Hazmat drums. At all times Hazmat crews continually used detectors to check on the atmosphere and monitored the water runoff from the incident which was contained on site. There were no reports of any injuries during the protracted incident.
