Ammonia leak at Tahmoor
Published: 25th September 2007
A 50 litre leak of ammonia inside a factory caused the evacuation of 200 workers and required the transportation of 16 people to hospital. Firefighters from Picton, Camden and hazmat specialists from Greenacre responded to the factory in Ralfe Street Tahmoor this morning. The leak, caused by a pressure relief valve, was isolated and three people decontaminated by fire crews. Gas detectors were used to take readings of vapour levels while the building was ventilated. Once the readings had reduced to a safe level firefighters were able to complete the incident.
