Brookvale factory fire

Published: 19th September 2007

Just after midday fire crews from Dee Why and Manly responded to smoke pouring from a factory unit complex in Old Pittwater Road, Brookvale. Due to the significant number of Triple Zero (000) calls being received firefighters from Forestville and Neutral Bay were also responded to the call. The industrial complex contained up to 100 factory units located in over a dozen buildings spread over several hectares. First arriving crews where confronted with smoke issuing from a large building that contained 12 separate factory units, each with different occupancies. The unit on fire was located at the end of the building and fire crews contained the fire to the one unit. A thermal imaging camera was used to ensure that the fire had not spread into adjoining units and when the fire was extinguished a large fan was used to ventilate the building. Firefighters assisted with the clean up to minimise further damage.
