Car accident at Inverell

Published: 16th September 2007

Early this morning firefighters from Inverell responded to a car accident on the Old Bundarra Road, Inverell. One person was trapped inside a vehicle that had collided with a telegraph pole, which shifted 20cm as a result of the impact. Fortunately, no power lines were damaged in the accident. Country Energy switched off the power and personnel attended the scene to repair the pole. Firefighters and ambulance officers assisted the Volunteer Rescue Association with the rescue operation while the fire crews also provided fire protection. It was a difficult rescue due to the fact that the occupant was trapped around the ankles by the seat and steering column. The rescue took just over 1.5 hours to complete. The occupant suffered leg and internal injuries and was flown to Tamworth for further treatment.
