Fire in a school at Leeton
Published: 15th September 2007
Firefighters from Leeton and Narrandera responded to a fire in a school early this morning in Myrtle Street at Leeton. On arrival the first fire crews found a large amount of smoke pouring from the two level school building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and carrying fire hoses entered the building to battle the blaze. The fire was on the top floor and involved two classrooms with the flames entering the roof area and spreading to other classrooms. Fire crews were able to stop the fire spread and prevent damage to other rooms. A thermal imaging camera was used to ensure that all traces of fire were extinguished. Firefighters assisted with the clean up to minimise further damage. The fire severely damaged the classrooms and the cause is being investigated.
