Fire in a unit at Parramatta

Published: 6th September 2007

Firefighters from Parramatta, Wentworthville and Merrylands responded to a fire in a residential unit in the early hours of this morning. Fire engines arrived at the Macquarie Street Parramatta address within five minutes to find smoke pouring from a unit on the sixth floor of the seven level building. Firefighters removed two people from the fire area and contained the blaze to the unit where it started. A total of 50 people were evacuated from the building during firefighting operations. A thermal imaging camera was used on the fire floor and the floor above to ensure that there was no fire spread. The unit in which the fire occurred suffered extensive damage. After ventilating the building and using a vacuum to remove water, limiting further damage, firefighters allowed residents to return to their units.
