Caravan manufacturers fire at Hexham

Published: 5th September 2007

A fire this morning resulted in a shed and three caravans being destroyed and a further two caravans suffering damage. Firefighters from Tarro, Mayfield West, Newcastle and Minmi were called to the address on the Pacific Highway at Hexham and on arrival found one person had suffered burns, several caravans were on fire and a gas bottle that had been exposed to the fire was venting gas. Fire crews attended to the burns victim and then concentrated on protecting nearby caravans from fire spread. A restricted access area was enforced as several other gas bottles had to be cooled with water streams to prevent them from also venting. When the fire was extinguished fire crews used a gas detector to ensure that there was no build of dangerous gases in the area. The burns victim was taken to hospital.
