Explosions reported at Wollstonecraft

Published: 21st August 2007

The NSW Fire Brigades was called to Gas Works Road at Wollstonecraft on two occasions today after there were reports of an explosion. When fire crews from Lane Cove, City of Sydney and Hazmat specialists from Greenacre arrived at the scene they were informed a subterranean explosion had occurred. Fire crews using thermal imaging cameras and gas detectors scoured the area and investigated pits and the nearby drains but could find no reason for an explosion. There was no physical evidence of a blast as the ground, footpaths and a nearby apartment building showed no signs of damage. Fire crews liaised with nearby industry, State Rail and even checked on seismic activity for the area without finding a reason. Local council and gas company representatives remained at the scene for further investigations.
