Fire in a garage at Fairfield

Numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received this evening to a fire in a detached garage in Larry Street at Fairfield. Firefighters from Fairfield and Cabramatta arrived to find the garage at the rear of the property engulfed in flames with reports that someone was still inside. Fire crews quickly began to extinguish the blaze, protect nearby houses and carry out a search of the garage. Tragically the body of an elderly man was found inside the destroyed garage. The cause of the fire is being investigated with no suspicious circumstances apparent.
