Published: 24th July 2007
At noon fire crews from Newcastle, Hamilton, Merewether, Carrington, Waratah and New Lambton responded to a fire in the roof cavity of a group of residential units in Laman Street at Cooks Hill. The first firefighters arrived within five minutes at the single level building which contained three separate units. Fire crews accessed the roof area and extinguished the blaze while other crews monitored residences that were down wind. A thermal imaging camera, which is able to identify any sources of heat, was used to ensure that the fire was completely out. Three people were evacuated and firefighters ventilated the units and assisted with clean up work. The roof area was extensively damage and the units suffered moderate damage from the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
