NSWFB pays tribute to local firefighting identity

NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Superintendent Michael Brown today paid tribute to retired Station Officer Bruce Harris, who passed away on Friday 13 July.Superintendent Brown said that Mr Harris, who was the first Aboriginal Station Officer in the NSWFB, was a great man and an excellent firefighter.
"Bruce did a lot of great work in the community of Moree, and worked closely with the community to educate young people about the potential dangers of lighting fires.
The work that Mr Harris did in his 10 years as Station Officer in Moree has left an important legacy in the community, which is being continued by firefighters at Moree Fire Station," he said.
Mr Harris was the longest serving Station Officer in Moree and carried on the tradition of firefighting from his father, who served with the NSWFB 60 years ago.
Superintendent Brown said that the thoughts of the NSWFB family were with the Harris family during this difficult time.
