Fire in a garage under residential units at Blacktown

Blacktown, Seven Hills, Huntingwood, Schofields and Wentworthville firefighters responded to numerous Triple Zero (000) calls to a fire in a garage underneath a residential unit block in Bruce Street at Blacktown late this evening. When fire crews arrived they were confronted with the flames from the garage impinging on the upper level units. Firefighting crews, wearing breathing apparatus, put out the fire while search and rescue operations were conducted to ensure that all of the residents had evacuated. The building was heavily smoke logged and the blaze caused extensive damage to the garage and there was heat and smoke damage to the outside of the units. Two people were taken to hospital and there were no reports of any injuries.
