Host: Muswellbrook Fire Brigade

The first round of the NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Firefighter Championships concluded yesterday with firefighters from Kelso Fire Station declared the West Regional Champions.

The team from Scarborough took out second place with firefighters from Glen Innes in third place, after two days of competition. The host brigade, Muswellbrook Fire Station, came in seventh place with Firefighter Bradley Kane winning the Ladder Practice event in a time of 7.126 seconds.

The NSWFB, in partnership with the NSW Firefighter Championships Association, hosted the event at Bowman Park, Muswellbrook.

The team from Kelso, who currently holds the National Firefighter Championships title, won four of the 13 events including the Hose and Hydrant and the Urban Pumper Collector and Ladder events.

NSWFB Commissioner Greg Mullins said the West Regional Championships had been a success and that the 80 competitors from across NSW had demonstrated outstanding skills and a high level of team work.

"Witnessing the skills demonstrated by these firefighters over the weekend makes me confident that the people living in their communities are well protected against the threat of fire and other emergencies."

"I would like to thank the NSW Firefighter Championships Association for organising such a great event, and I look forward to attending the other regional Championships taking place throughout the year,” Commissioner Mullins said."
