Office evacuation after carpark fire at Mascot

Published: 26th June 2007

Firefighters from Arncliffe, Botany, Mascot and Marrickville responded to a fire in a building in Cooks River Avenue at Sydney International Airport. On arrival fire crews found smoke coming from the ground floor of the 10 level building with occupants in the process of evacuating. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus carried out a search for any remaining occupants in the smoke effected areas while another crew located the fire and extinguished it. The fire, which was in an industrial bin in a ground floor carpark, was extinguished quickly. The internal sprinkler system, which had operated, assisted in suppressing the blaze. Approximately 500 people were evacuated with no reports of any injuries.
