Published: 23rd June 2007

This morning firefighters from Woollahra, Darlinghurst and City of Sydney responded to a residential unit on fire in Eastbourne Road at Darling Point. On arrival fire crews found flames and smoke coming from the second floor unit of the nine level building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and carrying a fire hose entered the unit and rescued one female occupant who was suffering from smoke inhalation. The rescued female was treated on scene and taken to hospital by ambulance officers. Several other people were also treated at the scene of the fire. Due to the heavy smoke logging firefighters carried out a search of the building and 50 people were evacuated. The fire was contained to the room in which it started and quickly extinguished with the room contents severely damaged by the fire.
