Residential unit fire at Windale

Late this evening numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received to a fire in a two level residential unit building in James Street at Windale. Firefighters from Tingara Heights, Charlestown, Belmont, Cardiff, Newcastle, Hamilton and Swansea responded to the fire. On arrival fire crews found a top storey unit totally involved in fire. The fire had started in one unit and spread through the roof to another unit. Fire crews carried out a search of the building to make sure all occupants had evacuated and used numerous fire hoses to control the blaze. Two units suffered extensive damage and the roof was destroyed. There were no reports of any injuries.
