Published: 3rd June 2007
Early this morning firefighters from Busby and Bonnyrigg Heights were called to a house fire in Kincumber Road, Bonnyrigg. The Triple Zero (000) calls that were received indicated there was a possibility people were inside the building. When the first fire crews arrived they found the front room of the house engulfed in flames with a large amount of smoke billowing from the roof. Onlookers indicated to firefighters that it was possible up to nine children were inside the house. Fire crews commenced an aggressive fire attack and carried out search and rescue. The fire attack crew reported extreme heat inside the building but firefighters were able to advance down the corridor to the rooms which were alight and bring the fire under control. Firefighters conducted a search of the house but did not locate anybody inside. Firefighters gained access to the roof to check for fire spread using a thermal imaging camera and the air inside the house was checked using a gas detector. Crews were able to limit the damage from fire to the front third of the house. The rest of the property suffered severe heat and smoke damage.
