Young firefighters respond to a tar truck rollover

This morning firefighters from Young responded to a tar truck rollover on the Olympic Highway 12km north of the town of Young. On arrival fire crews found the prime mover detached from the trailer which was on its side adjacent to the roadway. The driver was uninjured and the load was quickly identified as heated bitumen, some of which spilled from the tanker. A front-end loader from a local property owner was used to construct an earth wall to contain the spill. Exclusion zones were established so that firefighters, in consultation with specialists from the tar company, could clean up the incident safely.
