Residential unit fire at Harris Park

Published: 17th May 2007

Numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received this morning to a residential unit on fire in Brisbane Street at Harris Park. Fire crews from Parramatta, Silverwater, Merrylands, Rydalmere and Eastwood responded to the address and found flames and a large amount of smoke pouring from the second level unit. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus carried out a search of the unit and fought the blaze to stop it from spreading. There was heavy smoke logging on the top floor above the fire and 15 people were evacuated from the building. Firefighters extinguished the fire but the unit suffered extensive damage. Large fans were used to clear the building of smoke and after checking that it was safe, firefighters allowed the residents to return to their units. There were no reports of any injuries.
