Hazmat incident at Wetherill Park

Published: 16th May 2007

A spill of a hazardous material on The Horsley Drive at Wetherill Park took firefighters from Smithfield, Bonnyrigg Heights, Busby, Cabramatta, and Hazmat specialists from St Marys and Greenacre over four hours to clean up. Six 20 litre drums of the hazardous material were found on the road and traffic had spread the material over a wide area. The road was closed with the assistance of the police so that fire crews could work safely. After on site fire officers consulted with the NSW Fire Brigades scientific officer a neutralising agent was used on the hazard. The Department of Environment and Conservation, together with the RTA, were at the scene to assist fire crews with the final clean up of the spill.
