School fire at Young

Published: 11th May 2007

This morning fire crews from Young, Boorowa, Goulburn and Cowra were called to a school fire in Bruce Street at Young. Firefighters from Young reported a large amount of smoke was visible on the way to the fire and on arrival found three classrooms engulfed in fire. Fire crews quickly deployed fire hoses to battle the blaze and made sure the gas and electricity supply to the classrooms was disconnected. Nearby buildings were protected to prevent the fire spreading and firefighters worked for several hours to extinguish the fire. The classrooms and an office area suffered extensive structural damage with a large section of the roof collapsing.
