Bushfire, Revesby Heights

Published: 13th February 2006

Forty firefighters from the New South Wales Fire Brigades and the Rural Fire Service attended a series of bush and grass fires in the Little Salt Pan Creek Reserve at Revesby Heights on Friday 10 February 2006. Fire crews were sent to the fire just before 2.30 pm when numerous triple zero calls were received.

When crews arrived they found a number of serious fires burning in the reserve between Henry Lawson Drive, The River Road and Little Salt Pan Creek. One fire was threatening homes in Brockman Avenue while another was affecting traffic in Henry Lawson Drive.

Four fire crews protected houses in Brockman Avenue and Sandakan Road while other crews fought the fire near Henry Lawson Drive. The New South Wales Fire Brigades helicopter was used for reconnaissance. The fire covered about two hectares. The Police closed Henry Lawson Drive near the fires because of the hazards to motorists and to firefighters working close to the road.

It took crews nearly two hours to completely contain the fires. As a result of their quick intervention no property was damaged. There were no injuries. Firefighters remained at the scene for another hour and a half mopping up.

The cause of the fires is being investigated by the New South Wales Fire Brigades and the Police.
