Factory Fire, Wetherill Park

Published: 22nd February 2006

A factory fire in Wetherill Park on 20 February 2006 required the response of 50 firefighters from 10 brigades. The NSW Fire Brigades received a triple zero call shortly after 11.30 pm and firefighters arrived moments later to find large volumes of smoke issuing from a two level factory. Closer inspection revealed a large fire in a mezzanine office area spreading towards a warehouse stocked with plastic products.

Firefighters put on air cylinders to enter the building and attack the fire. As more firefighters arrived the attack was consolidated and within 30 minutes the fire was contained. The swift intervention of fire crews confined the fire damage to the office section with only heat and smoke affecting the warehouse area. There were no injuries.

Firefighters remained at the scene until after 3 am mopping up. They used thermal imaging cameras to ensure the fire was completely out. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the NSW Fire Brigades’ Fire Investigation and Research Unit and the Police.
