Home Unit Fire, Camperdown

Published: 20th April 2006

Shortly before 3.30 pm on Thursday 20 April 2006, the NSW Fire Brigades received an automatic fire alarm call to a home unit complex in Camperdown. Triple Zero calls reporting a home unit on fire were received shortly after. Twenty firefighters from four brigades responded.

The Glebe brigade was on the scene six minutes later and found large volumes of smoke issuing from a residential unit block. Firefighters put on air cylinders to investigate the source of the smoke. They found a single bedroom unit alight. Firefighters searched the burning unit and attacked the fire using internal hose reels. Fortunately there was nobody inside the unit. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes. Three rooms were extensively damaged. One person had cuts to their hands and was treated by Ambulance officers.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
