Shop Fire, Revesby

Published: 26th May 2006

Shortly before 1.30 am on 26 May 2006, the NSW Fire Brigades was called to a car on fire in Revesby. Fire crews were on the scene within seven minutes and find a single level seafood shop heavily involved in fire. A car had been driven into the shop and was also burning fiercely. Fearing that the fire would spread to involve the other seven shops in the complex, firefighters requested additional resources and ultimately 20 firefighters from four brigades were committed to fighting the fire.

Firefighters concentrated on containing the fire to the seafood shop and had the fire under control in about 45 minutes. Fire crews wearing air cylinders checked for fire spread in concealed spaces before declaring the fire extinguished at around 2.30 am. The seafood shop was extensively damaged by the fire. The other shops were saved. There were no injuries.

The shop was handed over to the Police who declared a crime scene. Police investigators are being assisted by the NSW Fire Brigades Fire Investigation and Research Unit.
