Shortly before 1 pm on 13 July 2006 the NSW Fire Brigades received a call from the Police reporting a home unit on fire in Concord West. Fire crews were on the scene four minutes later to find smoke issuing from a single level villa type unit.

Firefighters wearing air cylinders entered the unit to conduct a search. They found an unconscious man just behind the front door. The crew immediately removed the man to safety and provided life support first aid treatment until the arrival of an ambulance. Paramedics then took over treatment before conveying the critically injured man to hospital.

Firefighters also contained and extinguished the fire which has severely damaged approximately 25% of the unit. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the NSW Fire Brigades Fire Investigation and Research Unit and the Police.
