04/05/11 - Cronulla building fire

Just after 3.00am this morning fire crews were called to a fire above a shop in Cronulla Street, Cronulla. Firefighters were on scene within six minutes and reported that smoke was issuing from the top level of a two level building.
Thirty firefighters from six surrounding fire stations attended the blaze which took two hours to bring under control and extinguish. Two people inside the building at the time of the fire were evacuated to safety without injury. The roof area of the structure was extensively damaged and a shoe shop on the ground floor sustained damage from smoke heat and water.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
